Synopsis
NAIVEDYA: THE OFFERING OF LOVE
Shirdi Sai Baba was an Indian saint who lived in the village of Shirdi in Maharashtra and whose teachings of faith (Shraddha), patience (Saburi), compassion and selfless service continue to inspire millions of devotees around the world. Among the many traditions associated with Sai Baba, the offering of food held a special place in his life and teachings. Devotees would lovingly prepare and bring food as Naivedya—an offering made with devotion and gratitude. Baba accepted these offerings with affection, often mixing them together and distributing them among all present, erasing distinctions of wealth, caste and status. For him, food was not merely nourishment; it was an expression of love, equality and divine grace.
Naivedya: The Offering of Love explores this unique and enduring tradition that has continued in Shirdi for more than a century. Drawing upon historical accounts, the Sai Satcharitra, and contemporary practices, the film traces the journey of Naivedya from the kitchens of devotees to the sacred spaces of Shirdi.
The film revisits the remarkable occasions when Sai Baba personally cooked for his devotees, preparing large quantities of food in earthen vessels and serving everyone with his own hands. Through these acts of service, ordinary food was transformed into Prasad—a sacred gift shared among all. The film also documents the daily cycle of offerings that continues today, from the early morning Makhan-Mishri offered before Kakad Aarti to the Mahanaivedya and the final offering at Shej Aarti. It captures the traditions followed at the Samadhi Mandir, Dwarkamai, Gurusthan and Chavadi, and highlights the role of the Sai Prasadalaya in preserving and sustaining this living heritage.
Blending history, devotion, ritual and service, "Naivedya: The Offering of Love" celebrates a timeless legacy rooted in Sai Baba's message of love and sharing. It is the story of how food prepared with devotion, offered with faith and shared with humility becomes a sacred bond that nourishes both body and soul.
